Cracked egg

Recommended Posts

:) just set my Suro. Cracked a legbar unfortunately, but I've tried nail varnishing over and I will out it in later when it isn't fumey! Prob won't work, but worth a try!

I had two very sucessful hatches from egs with nail varnish & sticky tape - now both 4 weeks old.

As evidence this is the shell after the silkie was born - showing damage:

...and here it is now at 4 weeks old:

This little one was in the same batch from a damaged egg:

I understand that commercially people wouldn't take the risk, but if the membrane is undamaged it is worth a go to see what happens.

I am rooting for that egg now :D Ironically, I don't wear nail varnish but my SIL gave me some kit thing for xmas (hint probably) that came in a little bag. My very naughty labrador crept upstairs and destroyed it, spilling contents all down the stairs and I picked it up that very day and just put it by the incubators on my way through kitchen. Had that not happened I wouldn't have even realised I had any and would have chucked the egg :D It was a bit blunt fall, the impact was the side of the egg so it wasn't really badly cracked, but it covered a fair area. We shall see :D
