I'm going to give the chicks a good clean today (Messy little so & so's)

and can't decide what bedding to use.

at the moment I'm using Non slip matting & wood shavings.

but the problem with that is they are eating the wood shavings (and coming out in the morning looking like wood shaving monsters) and it's getting in their water.

i was thinking of using newspaper but my sister said it's too messy.

So what should i use?

Keep them on Wood shavings or put them on something else?

Thanks,

Raina :D

After about nine months of experimentation I have found the perfect brooder litter!

I've tried J cloths, newspaper, shavings, aubiose, Bedmax, towels, kitchen roll

The loose stuff they scattered everywhere and made a heck of a mess, the rest werent absorbant enough and they stank

so my solution is J cloths with a thin layer of wood pellets (you can get this as cat litter or horse bedding)

It took a while for me to get over the fact that they wew walking on an uneven surface but they dont seem to have any trouble and my kitchen stays smell and mess free! :D

Tasha, I am so glad you posted that - I nearly bought that wood cat litter the other day thinking it would be great, but then got all worried as had never heard it used, so put it back :D I used to keep pet rats, hamsters etc on it and it was fab for the same reason. I noticed you can buy a pelleted small animal bedding based on paper too, I guess I am worried they will eat it, but if yours don't then I will try it :D
