Is there something wrong?

Hi All,

I have a Marran as part of my foursome. I posted a while back because she was "mucky" around the back end. Advice was to worm her which I did, gave her bran and yoghurt which worked and she is now clean and happy.

I just wondered whether is is usual with this breed for her not to lay yet? She is approximately 48 weeks old. I was told she was point of lay when I got her, but she has never laid a single egg.

I am sure of this because my others all produce either white, blue or light brown eggs.

I am sure they are all happy and there is no evidence of bullying. The others much to my surprise have continued to lay almost every day over the winter despite expecting egg production to drop off due to the colder weather!

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks for that!

Just a quick thought.

Is she possibly broody? She will go into the house and sit in the egg box regardless of whether or not the others have laid. She will sit there sometimes for an hour or so before coming out, eating, drinking and generally roaming.

If so would this be stopping her laying, and if so what should I do. I don't really have anything else to put her in or safe to keep her at night!

What sort of Marans is she? could it be that she is laying some of the light brown eggs? a lot of cuckoo marans dont lay very dark eggs

She could be broody or she could just be 'practicing' (which they do :lol: )

Its not that normal for a Marans not to be laying at 48 weeks but then it doesnt sound like anything is wrong so it looks like its a matter of just waiting, shes probably a late bloomer :D
