Eglu Go Up with 2M run for sale Wrexham

Hi all,

 

Still debating on the whether to or not keep chickens (debating as trying to persuade my wife!!! lol), would it be ok to put an eglu in a shed? Was thinking of putting a shelf up (not too high) at back of shed and placing Eglu on it with ladder down to floor, i am thinking this would combat any early morning noise / possibly smell (although not too worried there, only planning on a couple of chickens and would clean regular). Would then put a little door in shed to either garden / run and could leave eglu door open so they could potter around in shed till i let them out.

 

Any thoughts / problems / advice?

It might be better in a WIR if you have room for one

 

They aren't too noisy in the mornings, and don't smell either - might be better outside in the air rather than in the shed for that.

 

Only thing is that a shed could get quite hot in the summer, so make sure there is some ventilation

When I first got my girls and a neighbour pulled a face I toyed with putting them in the shed. But I persevered with leaving them in the garden, where they have been fine. I have rabbits in a shed and it is a problem as it does get very hot, but if you made sure they could get out into a secured and shaded run at all times that should be OK.

 

The only other thing that crossed my mind is that an eglu is pretty heavy so would need very strong shed/shelves to support it.

Hi Franknfurter (good rocky horror name)!

 

We now have our cube inside a stable with some roosting bars higher up on the wall, unfortunately only one of our girls goes into the eglu at night now, they generally go as high as they can.

 

We now plan to put the run back on the eglu and keep our new chicks in there when they are big enough.

 

We have eleven hens and only one of them is ever noisy so dont worry too much about that.

If you sawed out some of the planks at the top and replaced with weldmesh it would be ok, you'd need plenty of light though. Another option may be to replace the door with a secure mesh one

 

I Have chooks in a stable with a mesh door and they are happy enough

At last, someone recognises the Rocky connection, most people think i'm German!!!! ha

 

Good idea with the mesh door, could even make it into a stable door with top half mesh to give more ventilation.
