yellowrose Posted April 8, 2010 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Ok so woke up this morning and one of my silkie 'hens' was crowing! I have 2 polands and 2 silkies. Shall I take back both silkies rather than just the cock so that I can introduce 2 rather than 1? BeckyBoo Posted April 8, 2010 Share Posted April 8, 2010 If you've got nowhere to put separate hens for introductions I think you might just have to take the boy back. If you can seperate them at all then you might manage but I'd keep the one you've got as she's part of her flock and she almost certainly won't get homed with him later, Dilemma I know, you might find you have two boys, I often found that only one would crow and when that boy went the next one stepped up to the mark. You might not have been given them on purpose, they can be hard to sex especially silkies (or I think so anyway) Hope you sort it, cockerels are lovely but too darned noisy! No it was definately not intentional, the couple I got them from are lovely and said it is difficult to sex them sometimes but any problems then she will take any boys back. So not worried in that respect just whether to send back one or two chooks as I guess I could get a rabbit hutch or something to intergrate. My little Buff Head was going to be culled at a breeders and in the end the breeder gave her to me on the condition that if she was a he then she didn't want him back. Thankfully she is a she!
