Stinky chickens!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I've copied the brilliant idea in this thread of putting corrugated plastic sheets over the Eglu run. Glad I bought some over the weekend, given the rain we had this morning...

Anyway - a question. Because the roof of the run slopes down a little towards the Eglu, I was wondering if anybody finds that the rainwater simply runs down the channels in the plastic and ends up either pouring down the front of the Eglu or, if the end of the plastic rests on the Eglu itself rather than the wire netting, pouring down the hole where the twisty door handle sticks up?

> Because I had the extended run, my corrugated plastic didn't cover the whole run so I had to put a small sheet of plastic shower curtain over the bit at the eglu end, with a little bit tucked under the eglu lid.

I've got the extended run arriving on Friday...!

So where does the water run if it's chucking it down? If the plastic is tucked under the lid, does that mean the water runs down the Eglu between the outer lid and the inner section? What I'm worried about is the water pouring into the coop through the eggport...

(Not such an issue today - glorious sunshine here - chickens loving it - but it probably won't last!!)

I've just stolen that idea regarding the rotary drier covers! Bought 2 on Ebay for just under £6 the other day. I've just filled my Eglu run up with Aubiose today and used the large winter run cover over the top. Once the covers have arrived I will put them around the run to help stop the Aubiose spilling out. I've also purchased some Citronella oil this week and will be putting that around the run once my girls have gone to bed tonight :D

I never noticed a problem - the water just runs down the sides to the ground. Never had a problem with water getting in through the eggport either :) .

Great stuff. That's the plan, then.

My bale of Aubiose arrived today, which is good news. Flyte So Fancy - they turned my order around very quickly.
