This bit though:

 

A lot of new keepers want to let the hens out at some time during the day, my advice is don't. If you let the birds out they will fret to get out at your every approach. If you keep them confined they will have no concept that there is an outside.

 

I feel awful if I don't let mine have a bit of free ranging time every day - am I actually doing them a disservice by letting them out...?
