our first chickens! pics included!

Recommended Posts

hi everyone! picked up the chickens and everybody was incredibly nice.

we got a bit lost..but managed to get there in the end. typical of us though.

the bbc scotland film crew were there? mum wasn't too pleased..she got interviewed (so did i but the camera was mainly pointed at her) and didn't exactly look her best!

here are some links to the photos.

we have named them lulu, sookie and dolly. lulu is definitely the leader of the pack (the confident one). sookie is quite social and dolly is the smallest and the worst out the bunch (and is shy of the camera! which is why you see very little of her in the photos). but they're all very nervous but friendly. we introduced our dog (she managed to get out the house) with the chooks (still in their run of course). and i was surprised. worked out well.

the chooks got more nervous as the day went on? has anyone had a similar situation?

at first they were allowing me to stroke them and they were coming up to me. but now..very jumpy.

perhaps it was because they were in shocked at the time.

but we've had a lot of visitors (thanks to my mum )!

we love them already!

here's a question i need answering; do i put the grit in with their food now? or wait a couple weeks? many thanks

:D

Hi Claudette,

Well done for giving the girls a lovely home.

They need grit seperately to their feed and they will take what they need when they need it.

Were you told to give them mash to start with as they would not recognise pellets as food?

Well done

DC

thanks a lot :) yep we have the mash for ex batts.

and thanks for telling me about the grit :) much appreciated
