Hello again again!

 

I was just watching one of my chickens grooming herself and something caught her attention.

 

When she fluffs up her feathers tend to divide into sections - her tail feathers and then her back feathers and between them there is like a parting, like we get on our heads.

 

Well, along this parting there was a very tall bump about 7mm tall and 4mm wide and the skin was all white over it.

 

She was pecking at it and kept on going back to it - is it normal? It looks severe.

Think you might be looking at her preening gland, someone might know where there are some pictures on the forum for you to look at.

It sounds like her preen gland, completely normal

 

She will go back to it when preening as it supplies the oil that she needs for her feathers

Ours (being ExBatts) had this gland clearly on show when they arrived (HOWEVER, as they had few feathers, they didn't use it much )

If it looks like a very big pimple, then that'll be it
