Unsecure chicken perches

Not sure what to do really, have literally just found that my bantie has the start of a swollen eye and it is starting to bubble, am trying to get a vet appointment but in the mean time what should i do? Bath it? seperate her from the other girls? Not sure what to do for the best and exactly what it could be?

Bubbling usually means mycoplasma. Its nasty and contagious but very treatable. Ask the vet to prescribe Tylan, and separate her if you can - its an airborne virus.

thanks, i have gone out and cleaned it with a saline soloution and have now managed to get a vet app for tommorrow, she is happily scratching around so hopefully i have caught it in time!

I would seperate her from the others too if you can, just to be on the safe side.

 

Do you have a pet carrier or dog cage she could stay in over night?

i had this a few months ago with one of mine. The breader recommended antibiotic eye drops i bought over the counter. They seemed to work well and she fully recovered, Hope she is better soon.

You shouldn't be able to buy antibiotic eye drops in the UK over the counter

@ChuckyMama - That might be so, but our local pharmacist sold us some, although I lied about it being for my better half...

 

It was several months ago, though, maybe they've made it script-only now.

 

That and antibiotics twice a week from the vet for a month did the trick.

Princess's lump near her eye went down and the bubbling stopped.

It is possible to buy medicated eye drops that contain chloramphenicol... (i think thats the one!).

 

 

pretty safe for humans .. i dont know bird mirobiology and biochemistry so i cant comment on using it for chooks.

Ah yes, I forgot that they now let that go over the counter via a pharamacist. There was a big hoo ha as they don't want resistance to build up because of overuse.

I had three Naked Necks with this and with a cough and chest infection, the vet gave me BAYTRIL for 7 days they recovered fully and one went on to hatch 6 chicks
