Sooo much pooping

i have a speckaldy and a blackrock. Just wondered how long they actually lay for? We were told they can live for 6-7 years?

I'm not sure but I think they lay for two or three years although the number of eggs drops after the first year.

 

I'm sure someone will be along in a mo with more accurate info.

I've known chickens live for 6-7 years but only lay for around 3 but the number of eggs do go down...my friends chicken is 5 and still pops one out once a week though!

Most hybrids lay for 1-3 years and only live for around that long. Purebreds live and lay for longer generally, although obviously not all are the same. Yours are hybrids, so I would expect them to lay well for 1-2 years then lay less and less, then stop. Most die soon after stopping laying (hybrids that is) but some live for another year or so. Purebreds can live for years after stopping laying, although some do die soon after.

Sorry. Purebreds can live for 6-7 years, but not all do, but I don't think many chickens live to 12.

I have 2 x 4 year old Pepper Pots who are still laying. The Gingernuts I got at the same time are long gone.

Pepperpot is 5 and lays 3-4 per week.
