sjp
Those are my French Wheaten Marans chicks, all came out pale yellow. I'm wondering if yours are Gold Brahmas? They'd have feathered legs and the same colouring as yours. Here's one of my Gold Brahmas: sorry I've not repleyed to you but I've not been to get on the DFT website till just. they do keep Gold Brahmas so it could be a cross. my 2 don't have as much fearther on the legs as yours and none on the feet.they also came out of brown eggs darker than standard shop eggs
sjp
the RIR chick's eye has started to open I think what happened is it got to close to Faith while she was scrathing about in the run (she get a bit 'focused' if you know what I mean and put some force in to it at times) she either kicked it or kicked some thing into it by the size of the chick it's not affected by it's been rootting about under the hellibore and getting stuck in to the little bit of Alfa chick mix I offered this evening while they were FR one other thing when can I change the narrow lipped chick drinker as the flow rate is terrible. and what can I change it to
Jools
I move mine up to a slightly larger drinker after about a week, usually one of the 1.5l gravity drinkers. Then as they grow up a bit (and start guzzling more), I just move them up to a larger size (4l is the next one I've got). The main thing is that they can't actually get into the water itself to drown themselves. Are you any closer to identifying the breeds? Not that it matters, they are gorgeous anyway. Not that it matters, they are gorgeous anyway. no but I've got new photos that I took last evening that I need to go through so that I can get opions on the RIR as for the gorgeous ther are starting to look a bit tatty at the moment as they are growing they're first proper feathers but don't chicks grow fast you go to work in the morning and they hardly have feathers you come home and they have wing feathers and the start of a tail
Jools
Provided there's enough room in the run, you'll probably be okay going straight to the 4l drinker as they can't get into it to drown. Yes I know what you mean about the scruffy stage and Rhodes seem to stay that way for a long time! I have some Silver Sussex and some Silver Sussex / Cuckoo Marans bantams at the 7 week mark and they look like perfect minature versions of adults.
