Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

We are getting our two pullets on Saturday (sussex star & Lohmann) they are 14 weeks old. They have been fed on wheat and mixed corn I believe. I want to feed them either growers or layers pellets, but I'm not sure of how old they should be for which feed. Any help please?

I'd feed growers pellets until 17/18 wks at least then switch to layers pellets. They need the extra protein in the growers. I think it's not good for them to get the layers too soon.

I've also got a young looking one. Will be interested to see what everyone else says. How do I get her to eat growers and stop the other older ones from not eating it?

I'd advise growers until they're come into lay, but make sure it isn't medicated (ACS against coccidiosis).

 

Alex, the only way would be to separate them.

Thanks jools. Will it harm Amber to eat the layers pellets? I have nowhere to seperate them. Plus they've all just settled in. She's not much younger. Is there something extra I could give her to replace what nutrients are missing from the layers??

I'd keep them on growers till around 16 weeks. If you have a mixture of hens age wise, you could give them a half and half mixture of layers and and growers pellets combined. A reasonable compromise, given your situation. Gradually increase it to all layers, as they get a bit older.
