Day 6 and a cold egg

Recommended Posts

I have just turfed my broody off the nest and found that one of her eggs was slightly away from others. it was still within the nest but was and she was sitting on it, but it was not being kept as toasty as the others. There is a definate temperature difference between this one egg and the other five. Is the egg no longer viable and should I have removed it?

Thanks

I'd put it back with the others and hope for the best. Between Bridget & Francesca some eggs got cold but most hatched so it didn't do them any harm. I guess it's the reason why they started hatching on the Thursday and finished on the Sunday but at least they did hatch!

I'd tuck it back too...Bloss had a salmon egg go cool, but the one which didn't hatch was marked up Golden Partridge, and the Salmons both hatched first so the cooling down period obviously didn't slow or stop the hatching for us:D......mind you I think the eggs weren't correctly marked, but heyho

It's back under her. I dont thinkit was deliberatly thrown out as it was still within the nest - It must have just not been covered aswell as the others. I'll keep on eye on it though.

Do you think I should candle the eggs at day 10ish or not bother? I wouldn't know what I would be looking for - but if the eggs were duds, I could break the broodiness.

I didn't think I'd know what I was looking at either, but round about day 10, may have been a bit later, I could clearly see shadows in 4 eggs, the other two were empty. Just don't throw out any 'duds' unless you are 100% sure ( I was only 95% sure of 1 so left it under Muppet 'just incase', I was right though, no good :D )
