Newbie worming questions

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie and I want to make sure my girls don't get worms. I have searched the forums, and I am probably more confused now!! Sorry if you have been through this before, but I am sure you know how much us new mummies worry!

The questions I have are:

1) I got my 2 girls last week from Omlet - when do I need to worm them first?

2) What should I use - Flubenvet or Verm-X? I like the idea of Verm-X, and I am assuming they don't have worms so could I use this regularly to prevent worms if I get going now?

3) If I do need Flubenvet, where should I buy it? I have seen some websites but would prefer to get it from one that someone else had used successfully before.

Thanks in advance. I spend so much time thinking about the girls, checking on them and talking about them; I think I'm a bit addicted!

Yeah I did see that someone said their girls still got worms while using Verm-X, so I might not waste my money on that and just worm them regularly.

Thanks for the link - I have placed an order with them and will see if someone tells me when to do it first. If not I will do them after about a month I think.

Oh great thanks! Well at least I will have some all ready for then - will write it on the calendar. They seem really healthy and were so clean when they arrived! Cilla did accidentally have an impromtu shower this morning when the hosepipe flicked up and caught her - she was very indignent!

I have learnt so much in such a short time from all the helpful people on here

I have never used Verm-X, I believe there are differing opinions on its effectiveness; the only other thing I use that I think is supposed to help chickens gut against worms is Apple Cider Vinegar in their water one week in four but never as a substitute for worming.

Believe it or not, there are long established poultry keepers who have always used ACV to counter internal parasites, but I prefer to trust Verm-x :)
