Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Both of my mother hens have gone into a molt, is there any reason for this?

They both have two week old chicks and have started to lose feathers in the last few days, are they deficient in something? They have corn, chick crumbs and are on grass, they also have mealworms to share with their babies and grit.

Not really sure about an answer but I have 3 hens with 1to 2 week old chicks and 2 of them are doing the same thing. The only 1 that isn't is a silkie, the other 2 are pekin crosses. They all have the same food etc so I wondered if it is a breed thing.

They lose condition when they have been broody. Plenty of chick crumbs, which are high in protein will help them over it.

 

In this hot weather, it would be a good idea to check them over for mites, and give them a dusting.

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. I have two mums with 2 and 3 wk old chicks and their run looks like a fight in a pillow factory!

Muppet ( silkie) is moulting as well. The chicks keep getting her feathers stuck to their already feathery feet, looks as though they are wearing Ugg boots
