Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Ok my white star is far from white now!! can anyone give advice on keeping them clean ive tried bathing her but it seems to be her feathers have actually been stained brown i think its from her dust bathing she she's just filthy!! any advice?

Trouble with bathing them is that it'll remove some of their natural waterproofing so they will be more vulnerable to staining. This time of year the sun will affect their feathers as well. If it's any consolation she will moult some time.....eventually.

My Delaware is the same. She has brown all over her feathers. Sorryy, no advice. Just comiserating.

My white star is the same - it seemed to coincide with the time I put a roof on the run. I guess she used to get a regular wash in the rain, and is dry all the time now.

 

OH told me when I chose her that she wouldn't always look nice and white, and he now takes great pleasure in pointing it out. I'm ignoring him.

My white star is the same....always looks grubby!

However she lays a lovely big bright white egg almost every day so I forgive her the scruffiness!

I'm considering hanging an omlet shade underneath the perches in my WIR to catch the poo from the girls perching - I'm sure my old girls sit up there and wait patiently until they can aim one at my beautiful (once) white White Star

My light sussex was very stained when she came but now she is lovely and clean. She doesnt mind the rain (unless really heavy). Their run has half cover and she tends to potter about in the rain so it keeps her clean. That said it rained so hard yesterda that the run is wet and soggy and she must have been digging and the top and back of her head are currently grey!
