Crazy Chicken!

Recommended Posts

I just wondered if anybody elses chickens go mad when they use their hose pipe?

With all this hot weather lately, we've needed to water the garden. But the action of unravelling the hose sends Hetty crazy!!

She puffs out her feathers and starts charging towards it. She makes this awful 'bocking' noise. I try to calm her down with a few treats etc, but to no avail. (It's actually quite funny to watch!!) :D

Anybody else have this problem please??

Same here! I've given in now, and now just let them get on with it. Me trying to calm the situation tends to achieve the opposite.

Whilst mine are terrified of the hosepipe, their all time biggest fear is moving plant pots. Big, small, anything being moved. I've got a poo pot by the run that I use to poo-pick - everytime I pick it up chaos breaks out!

For mine it's brussel sprout trees. Petrified of them....

Confirmed to me that sprouts are evil to be honest :lol:

Most things in the garden are OK though - and they love things being moved - they are normally there beak first trying to find any bugs that might have been under the pot! Quite dangerous really...

Mine were scared stiff of pumpkins - put one in the run, with a large section cut out for them to enjoy - lots of bok bok and running away - which I translated to mean "not going in there, that's new, we don't like that".

Removed the pumpkin - all fine and dandy thank you.

Other things they don't like, and run away from:

My husband when he is wearing an orange t-shirt.

The broom

my green poo scooper

Pigeons

plastic carrier bags

But, I am sure if any of the above things had sweetcorn or mealworms, or more recently white processed bread (courtesy of a low flying starling with no capacity to keep the bread in it's mouth) - then they would be all over it

Lately - clear window sealant seems to be a favourite, plucked from the bottom of the patio windows - I am sure the neighbours must think I am odd, when they hear me chasing Gloria round the garden yelling "oye, give me back my sealant you cheeky monkey"....

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

You think mine would be scared of a doberman but no.

The only thing they are petrified of is flying vegetables. We have to put veg through the holes because they attack me and steal the veg if I go in with it but fine otherwise so flying veg is the scary thing.

Mine dont like the lawnmower, well partially. My OH can do the furthest part of the lawn no problem, but as soon as the lawnmower heads towards their run they make a beeline for the corner underneath the drinker and clamber over each other! He can cut the hedge with the hedge trimmer - no problem. He can strim the edges - no problem. Lawnmower - all hell breaks loose

They also do not like aeroplanes if they are low flying, helicopters are fine though.

They dont mind the water sprinkler being on but they do mind the hose pipe being unravelled and laid down the garden - the pipe is the same colour as the flex on the lawnmower so perhaps they think the lawnmower is coming!
