taz1967
Hi All We are having our Cube and std run delivered on Monday along with 4 chickens. 2 Gingernut Rangers and 2 Pepperpots. We have been offered 2 bluebelle Chickens as well for a good price and can have them the same day (monday). Are we mad getting 6 Chickens for our Cube and std run???? We are having a WIR but thats still a month or so away from being completed. Whats your views? mad or sane???? Cheers gary
Plum
I would wait for your run. It's only a month or so away before your run is here and they are not all that much money to buy for the sake of avoiding a lot of problems with overcrowding. Sorry. Only my opinion, someone else will probably think the opposite However, not long until monday. Have a great day and don't forget to post pics. Olly
Reluctantly, I agree - a standard run will not be big enough for six chickens, and although a month doesn't seem long you could develop some serious pecking and bullying problems during that time which would be very hard to get rid of afterwards. (That's not to say that they won't peck and bully each other in the WIR of course, but it's much more likely in cramped conditions.) Bluebelles are lovely, I have one, but they're quite chunky birds - I'd wait till you have more space. Could the person offering them not hang on for another four weeks? txswanie
I have a cube and standard run and was originally going to have 6 girls. I cut that down to 4 when I actually saw the set up and how big my new maran was. I think that 6 chickens locked in that run would go mad and you may have fights. I don't even lock the 4 in the run, I let them free range all day. Perhaps if you chose smaller breeds you could get away with it but personally I would stick to 4. good luck. Egluntyne
I also agree, the standard run is a bit of a squeeze for 6 chickens. I'd wait for your WIR too.
taz1967
Hi All Thanks for your comments. Think we stick to 4 Chickens for now and possibly expand the emire when the WIR is all built. Oh and please dont be sorry, I did ask for comments and thoughts on the matter as we really didnt know what to do. Cheers Gary
