Summer Gateaux?

Recommended Posts

:? Oh dear, agreed to host an evening of "sparkling wine & summer gateaux" on Friday, and have bought the wine, but.....

What on earth do I do for gateaux? It does need to be "gateaux" rather than "cake", but can only find disgusting overly rich, too creamy, shop ones.

It's only for a dozen or so people, so I'm happy to make or buy, maybe a couple of different ones, if only they come out light & remarkable, in a good way!

Any ideas? :anxious:

Three or four very thin slices of sponge cake, layered with cream and strawberries - it needn't be too sickly.......

If you spread the sides with cream you can stick overlapping thin slices of strawberry around the outside.

Two thin layers of sponge (lemon) with a lemon mousse filling. Spread some of the mousse around the sides and across the top - top with thin shreds of lemon zest.

If the weather is warm then the Mint Cordial is lovely mixed with sparkling water - for those who don't drink alcohol.

Thank you everyone, what helpful replies, I'll get started on this early in the morning.

Feel much more confident now, I'll use all the suggestions, some for this occasion & some for others.

I love the irony that I clicked on Healthy Eating Chat first, & then remembered the urgency of this topic.

Thank you all so much for the ideas, and for reminding me about the soft drinks Lesley! Mmmm, off to re read Mint cordial topic.
