taz1967
I think it means that 'Diana' Might be a 'Denis'.............
bridgy chooks
Maggi is doing this too and I'm putting it down to her being on her own for the last few days (she has been a lot louder generally) and the early sunny mornings. Not sure how old Diana is but Maggi is definitely a girl as has been laying for the past 4 years.
Lavenders_Blue
A couple of mine have started doing this. One is definitely a loud 'bok bok' rather than a crow, but one (my top hen incidently) is definitely leaning towards a 'cock-a-doodle-do'! I think it's the early mornings as this has only started in the last month or so, they were quiet as mice in the winter. Of course if your hen is still young, then... well it could just be that she is a Dennis
jennydavies
We had a Blanche that turned out to be a Raymond. He is a beautiful Light Sussex boy. He has now been rehomed with his own flock of Ladies and looks spectacular. His green crescent tail feathers are now starting to grow and he cock-a-doodle-doos properly and his face furniture is magnificent. I am very proud of him I have heard said that if there is no cock, sometimes one of the girls will crow I hope she is a Diana for you, has she never layed or still too young ? Jenny. TheCoop
Well, it seems to be quite a recent addition to the morning routine. She's never done it before, but at the moment, Barbara is at the vets, so we're down to 2 at the moment and Dolly is broody, so poor Diana is kind of on her own! She's quite big, but she is definately a 'bird' as we've had eggs from her (though she is getting on a bit I think)!! Anyway, it's very annoying! TheCoop
Is it because she is bored???
Egluntyne
Very occasionally, the one functioning ovary may stop working and the hen may take on the characteristics of a rooster. This will include crowing and acquiring the feathering, comb and wattles of a rooster. It is unusual though. Perhaps this is what has happened. TheCoop
That would be typical!
