Hens not laying

Recommended Posts

I have 3 Miss Pepperpots who were laying 3 eggs a day (even most days through the winter) all of a sudden the last couple of weeks we have hardly had any eggs, Sat we didn't have any and yesterday only 1, could they be eating them?

We have seen a rat also in the last few weeks coming from under my neighbours decking (not seen it for a while) but have put some poison in a 'Rat Trap' box that the chickens cannot get to, they still seem happy in themselves so not sure whats going on.

Are you giving them a lot of treats? I've been away and my chicken sitter has been feeding mine more mixed corn then I would and the number of eggs dropped.

I may be wrong, but egg eating is not all that common. Could they be laying somewhere else? I had a period when mine decided to start their own nest - in a thistle bush! So not easy to find or get to!

Hi Tricia,

They have been rather spolit lately, they have ready brek every morning and have done since we got them 18 months ago, they also get a bit of bread during the day, we have an eglu and also a rabbit hutch in the pen (to lock their food in at night) and they always lay their eggs in the rabbit hutch box filled with straw.
