alligg Posted June 21, 2010 Share Posted June 21, 2010 Hi all I really need some advice about one of our hens Olive. she has been losing her feathers on the tops of her wings and front of her chest for quite some weeks now.to start with I thought she was moulting but now i'm not so sure.she has got some new feathers coming through but she also has some really sore parts that just seem to be bleeding and with no feathers,we then thought she was maybe being bullied but we have watched them closely and she gets on well with the other 2 and we have seen no signs of her being pecked or of her pecking herself.we have checked her for parasites and all is clear.we have been spraying her with anti-peck spray but this has made no difference so I wondering if she is still moulting and how long can it go on for? she is well in herself,still eating and drinking plenty and still very lively. It just looks so red and sore and i'm worried the holes where the feathers should be will get infected. any help would be appreciated Thanks Alli Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Plum Posted June 21, 2010 Share Posted June 21, 2010 Sometimes they pull them out of their chest when laying or broody. It could be one of the others pulling her feathers especially new ones which have a blood supply. I think I would try some antipecking spray.
