Brinsea Ecoglow

Recommended Posts

Im awaiting my first hatch of 8 Polands and 2 naked necks (fingers crossed)

and I have a Brinsea Ecoglow in a box ready to be put to use, but I read that they are not very good, is this true?..

I decided in a panic to order an Elecric Hen, which should be arriving before the big awaited hatch next Wednesday..

What to use?.. any help please appreciated.. I don't want to make a mistake, this is my first hatch and I am so excited..

I have everything else in place ready, but the heat source is a bit of a worry, mind you the weather is gorgeous at the moment I think that will help... :D

I've no experience of the Ecoglow but I did have to use an electric hen last year when one of my chicks was rejected by mum.

I can certainly vouch for its effectiveness, but in this hot weather it's important to make sure the chicks can get away from the heat source too. I think Tasha (Redwing) has posted on the subject. :)

The legs are a bit fiddly on the electric hen, but if you have two higher and two lower, the chicks can choose the right level for themselves.

Good luck with the hatch. :)

I use electric hens in a tilted position - only about an inch different front to back but it works well

Regarding the eco glow, I wouldnt buy one for more than 6 chicks and not for chicks under 2 weeks as they just dont seem to get warm enough - there is a thread here about them viewtopic.php?f=61&t=65437

I've seen one in use and the design is good and adjustment easier but because of the heat thing I will be sticking with electric hens

Brinsea have offered the retro fitting of a film over the plate that makes them warmer - if you cant get a refund on your boxed one then investigate this option

Ahhh this is interesting I looked on the Brinsea site and look what I found under the Ecoglow Chick Brooder info;

IMPORTANT - The latest EcoGlow brooders from Brinsea now have a modified design which has increased radiant output more than tenfold. All EcoGlows now supplied will be of the new design but if any users have EcoGlows with shiny 'silver' finish on the underside please return them to Brinsea Products Ltd for modification without charge.

My new one I bought only a week ago has a brown undersurface...

Tell everyone to SEND THEIRS BACK

I'm wondering if all the bad ones are the old version, has anyone had a bad experience with the browny ones..

Its a bit annoying that I ended up buying two... but I'm quite happy to have an emergency one at home in case I have two lots of chicks at different ages..

I even bought a secondhand little incubator I got from Ebay...
