Well, I agree with you that it's not a laughing matter to have an ill hen, and I also don't understand why some people make fun of my caring about it. However, I think it's because they just don't understand, so instead of feeling upset about it I either shrug it off as if I don't mind (esp. if it's family), or try and explain, depending on the person. Perhaps as henkeeping spreads it will seem less odd to people to care about a hen. Meanwhile, you're a lovely caring person, so don't let that change, just try not to mind the teasing, it's what you think that's important, not what others think of it. If it's general teasing about my henkeeping & chickenfriends, rather than sad news, I get in first and make fun of myself. Sorry to hear someone has been insensitive towards you.
