lisa33
Are you sad about TH? Me too. We will probably never get someone of TH's quality at his prime. But hopefully we will get someone who wants to play for The "Ooops, word censored!"nal TH's heart hasn't been with the club this season, which I think is why he hasn't been at his best when fit. Let's just the club use the money wisely.

Let's just the club use the money wisely. Yeah You're dead right when you say his heart wasn't with us this season. Would have been less painful if we had sold him last season - he hardly played any games last season and we'd have got more money for him. £16mil is a joke.... Spuds sold Michael Carrick for £18mil to Man. Utd - MICHAEL CARRICK! TH for £16mil is bad business... Only bright side i can see is that now we will have a different captain. TH was a fantastic player but he was rubbish as a captain. Am cross with him, i don't know whether he will get a good reception if he comes back or not but what he said about being with the club for rest of his career was obviously nonsense - even if things at the club did change (Dein leaving for instance) With TH, his loyalty was always to Wenger and Dein, not "Ooops, word censored!"nal... Robin Van Persie had better fulfil his obvious potential next season or we will be stuffed What am i gonna rename my duck?
lisa33
I can't work out how he goes for 16m and Bent is 18m. I just don't get it I was last season when they made TH captain just to keep him at the club. GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I can't bear people tippy toeing round players in case they throw their toys out of the pram. This does give RVP a chance to show what he can do though. I just hope the club uses the 16m and whatever we get for Reyes to get someone decent in. Much as I love seeing the kids break through we need some maturity within the team. We may as well get ready for the rest of the summer rumours that will now take over.....Bye Wenger, Bye Cesc, Bye the whole of the first team and maybe the reserves too
lisa33
You don't need to rename your duck though. TH was great for us once and we should remember that. My Bobbi is named after Pires (well they both run funny )
chelsea
I sympathise with TH leaving. I think its bad news for "Ooops, word censored!"nal and Barca are getting a really good buy for 16 million..... ....What world class player are you going to buy for that to replace him?? I think the other players will get jittery feet too....especially when I think back and how much Gallas wanted to join "Ooops, word censored!"nal and the whole French/henry thing he aint gonna be too happy now is he

Can't see us getting much for Reyes, though don't want to keep him. I do hope Freddie stays. Surely they will buy someone with experience in - they must have learnt that from the whole Vieira saga You'd hope... And you're right about the rumours in the papers... Will be a complete nightmare now... and whats worse is that some may be true... Loads of players have said they have signed for "Ooops, word censored!"nal/signed new contract because of chance to play with TH as Chelsea so kindly reminded us As well as Gallas, am sure Fabregas said that, for one... Martin B
"Ooops, word censored!"ody seems to have asked the question. What is a one man team without the man? One team, like the other 16 in the premiership. I'm so excited because we have penciled in a holiday to go and watch Barca again this season, and I'll get Henry on the back of the new barca shirt! It is a good point, 16 million for the best striker in the world and then 18million for darren bent! Bad Business. Gilberto is the obvious replacement as captain, a good one he is too! As for replacements, you would look at the two Italians Luca Toni and Iaquinta, but Toni has gone to Bayern and Iaquinta has gone to Juventus. "Ooops, word censored!"ne Wenger would probably have hoped that the money from Henry would have funded Ribery's move to "Ooops, word censored!"nal, but he has now joined Bayern Munich also. The finger now points at in my opinion the two spanish forwards, Torres and Villa, but with "Ooops, word censored!"nal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea all supposedly interested it could be hot competition. I personally know where I'd go, and it wouldn't be "Ooops, word censored!"nal.

Mmmmmmmmm... I suspect Villa would have been happy ever to have had a player who could be mourned as much as Thierry Henry will be..... I can't think of one.. just to put myself in Gooner shoes for a moment.. several departures from BWFC have particularly upset me.. Frankie Worthington Peter Reid Taddy Nowak Thommo Sir John McGinlay Eidur Gudjohnssen JJ Okocha Youri Djorkaeff Brooooooono BigSam not cos all of them were worldbeaters (like Thierry) - but cos they symbolised summat about the club - or about the times i supported it.. so.. in honour of Thierry Henry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFO5d0wS6s4 and in honour of JJ Okocha: (note cracking FK against Villa to knock them out of FA cup... ) To all those we have loved to watch and have left our clubs... lisa33
BTW Lisa, welcome to the football thread! - is nice to have another gooner on board! You gonna give the prediction league a go next season? Thanks. Not sure about the prediction league. I don't want to jinx our results (which is what always happens if i put money on a game) Have you seen the article on "Ooops, word censored!"nal.com? http://www."Ooops, word censored!"nal.com/article.asp?thisNav=News&article=473557&lid=NewsHeadline&Title=Henry+-+It+was+the+most+difficult+decision+of+my+life Quite interesting but not sure how much of his reasoning is true and how much is excuses. The more i think about what has happened the less sad i am. I just want the season to start so we can prove we are more than a one man team (as we had to do last season)
Guest
I just want the season to start so we can prove we are more than a one man team (as we had to do last season) I think you already proved that last season lisa.. For what it's worth, i think TH going will have a positive effect on players who don't have to think of themselves as being in his shadow anymore.. only thing that worries me is that you are still being linked with Anelka - despite the fact that here was bad blood when he left, and Wenger said he'd never play for "Ooops, word censored!"nal again... the rumours persist... I also think TH will fade into obscurity at Barca - I think his best years are behind him and he will suffer from multiple niggly injuries and never make the impact he hopes he will... there is a rumour doing the rounds about a players plus cash deal.. you get Anelka - we get £11million plus Alex Song and Kerrea Gilbert.... (if that happened - I think I'd be happy!!) Phil

helenp
Hi, As a gooner myself, half of me is sad that Henry has gone, but the other half is glad that he has. He has been a fantastic player for us & has been instrumental in winning trophies, and I am sure that if Barca are drawn against us in the Champions league he will receive a wonderful welcome from fans and players, once a "Ooops, word censored!"nal hero always an "Ooops, word censored!"nal hero. There was no point in him staying if he was not happy & would not give 100% everytime he played, as he says he needs a new challenge & he will get that at Barca. I am sure that AW will use the money from the deal wisely and buy a player who is or will become world class just as he has done with Henry. I agree that we just need the season to start, so we can prove how good we still are & that we can challenge for top honours.

gooner.girl
I like how you put Merse at the top Martin! I do hope Henry does worse then expected at Barca - i hope we draw them in the champs league, give him a good(ish) reception and then thrash them helenp - you're right - we don't want players to stay who don't give 100% and despite Henry saying on "Ooops, word censored!"nal.com he did - I am not convinced - especially by last season... gooner.girl
So my DH took a minibus load of kids to Thorpe Park on a youth group trip today and there i was laughing at him, happy in the knowledge i was having far more fun at the smallholder show buying my ducklings (see ducks section ) when he texts to say he has seen Alan Smith - ALAN SMITH!!! at Thorpe Park (no, *sigh... not the Man.U and Leeds player who was/is pants but Alan Smith - "Ooops, word censored!"nal legend of the early 90's who scored the goal against Parma that won us the European Cup Winners Cup) Here he is... Jealous?! I think so! What is even more impresive is that my DH recognised him, being the plastic gooner that he is and 'smudger' being WAY before his "Ooops, word censored!"nal supporting time. My indoctrinating obviously has had more of an impact then i thought!
