madchickenlady
I have just won six frizzle pekin hatching eggs on ebay! I realise it's a bit of a gamble, but I am so desperate for a frizzle pekin, and can't get one anywhere. I've been keeping chooks for two years now, and have toyed with hatching many times. However, now I have resolved the boy issue in my own mind, it's all systems go! I will try and rehome the inevitable boys, but if that proves impossible, my vet will cull for me. I have a second hand covalutto 7 incy, three spare bulbs, some vikron, a heatlamp and a makeshift brooder. No doubt I'll be on here in a panic within the week! Mollie333
Hello from DERBYSHIRE! Where abouts in Derby are you? I got my Pekins from a place called Pages Poultry, and if your still looking for Frizzles if the eggs dont hatch or you get all boys, then check it out. They have most types out poultry and Susie is a family friend, and is very experianced so she is very helpfull for new chicken owners. Give her a ring for an apointment though! www.pagespoultry.co.uk I hope the hatch goes well,as you have probably read on Omlet that eggs don't travel that well, so be prepared for some to not hatch. I candelled my eggs on day seven (now on day 10) and i have all four fertile! I'm looking forward for Effy to be a mother, she is a little madam, but she is a Pekin who is lovely and would make a good mummy. Are you hatching with a incubator or broody? Looking forward 2 the update x

madchickenlady
Oh, I know I might end up with a total failure! Especially as it's my first attempt, with a very basic incy. I'll candle at around ten days and hope for the best
Mollie333
You can candle at any point between day 4 and day 17 i think. You have to have a good eye to see if its fertile at day 4 thoughh.. hoping for the best x

madchickenlady
The eggs arrived today, and I only went and dropped them Absolutely gutted. So silly and clumsy. Have contacted the seller begging her to sell me some more. Gah, very disappointed
Guest
Oh no thats not good. Oh by the way. I am in love with your milliefleur hens i wanted one but the breeder has had no chicks this year
madchickenlady
Aw, thanks for your comments about my blog! The mighty mille's are great, aren't they? They are slightly larger than my other pekins, but are marvellous characters. I've noticed that a lot of breeders are out of pekins at the moment (they've all gone broody, so no eggs! ). There are millefleur eggs on ebay....
Guest
Aw I can't hatch any eggs out because of cockerels. They are stunning and your karate kicking chook maeve I think ? Is so funny. It is understandable for pekins why not when it is boiling outside. My girls are still very young so they aren't laying yet but they are turning into little terrors. Guest
Have a look at these pekin's, they are my breeders girls http://powerpoultry.co.uk/index.php?action=view_gallery&id=6&module=imagegallerymodule&src=%40random4941b3654bc9f
madchickenlady
They're beauties! Thanks for that link, have just fired off an email in the hope that they might have a few frizzle eggs! Yes, Maeve is the karate expert pekin, aka ASBO chicken I can't keep cockerels either. My plan is to try and rehome any boys, but if not my vet has agreed to cull any ill/unhomable chicks. Very much hoping it won't come to that, though. Pekins are generally quite desirable
Guest
I actually don't know if they have frizzles never seen them there They don't tend to reply to emails much because they are sometimes too busy but give them a call.
Mollie333
Are you looking for eggs or actual chickens? madchickenlady
Thanks Mollie, that's a useful link Luckily, my breeder has taken pity on me and is sending me some more eggs at a more than reasonable price. Now, to not drop them on arrival
madchickenlady
New batch of eggs have arrived! They are now resting while I try and get my very basic incy to behave temp wise
Roobaloo
Is it the frizzle pekins again? What incubator have you got? I put mine in first thing this morning, also a very basic incy! ....I'm so excited that I may end up having heart failure before the 21 days are up!!! Every time I go past the room, I go in and check them...as if expecting something to have changed!!
madchickenlady
Yes, more frizzle pekin eggs My incy is a covatutto 6, so very basic. At the moment, I'm trying to find the best place to site it. I had it in the garage, but the temp fluctuations were a bit much. It's now in the living room, behind the sofa on a table. I have two thermometers in it. One is reading 41C, and the other 32C I have a digital thermometer coming tomorrow, and I'm hoping that will give me a more accurate reading! My plan is to set the eggs either tomorrow afternoon or saturday morning, depending on when I get the incy temp right. Ooh, it's nerve wracking! madchickenlady
Eggs are set Temp reading 38C, humidity around 45%. Now I just need to hold my nerve
Lewis
Good luck That humidity is a bit high tbh - I wouldn't have any water in it until 3 days before they're due to hatch
