Poorly chicken not drinking - advice please

Recommended Posts

We are having a slight problem at the moment and would be very greatful for any help and advice.

We have a poorly chicken who has been unwell for the last week. We believe that the symptoms point to worms and so are giving her a course of Flubenvet. She seems to be perking up but she does not want any water. Her crown is red with no tinges of blue so we don't believe that she is dehydrated. She is eating grapes, blueberries, poridge and lettuce so we know she is getting some moisture but she won't go near her water bowl or even the bowls we leave around the garden for her. As i said, she does seem to be improving but we would feel happier if she started to drink.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal? Is there something we should be doing which we are not at present to help her?

Thanks

Simon and Helen

If she doesnt seem to be suffering from lack of water I'd leave her and just keep feeding watery snacks, wheat or mixed corn that has been soaked in water for a couple of hours is very good for keeping chooks hydrated too

You could try syringing water in to her but if she seems reasonably perky I wouldnt put her through it
