Poor Hen-any ideas to help?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Nutmeg (ex-batt-18 months freedom) has been off colour since Thursday. She's hunched up, comb slightly floppy and not as active as normal, although she's eating (slightly less than normal) and drinking. Her poo is watery and green. She's not been having an excess of greens.

We've given her a good examination and there's nothing obvious. They were all wormed with Flubenvet 2.5 months ago, but I've started another course today. We lost one of other other ex-batts 2 weeks ago (She got egg bound and although we managed to get the egg out whole, she didn't make it.). Could it be something contagious? Nutmeg hasn't been laying for a few months now.

We're giving her Poultry Nutri-drops and have dosed her with olive oil, although her crop seems normal. She's also got asprin (1.5 asprin per 4 pints) and ACV in her water.

I'm at a loss as to what's wrong. Any ideas as to what else I can do to help her?

Thanks, Gail

Some of it could be the heat, that would show as floppy comb and watery droppings which appear green if they are not eating enough. But because she is hunched which indicates illness I would get her checked out.

Hope she picks up.

Hi,

Thanks for your best wishes Plum. They must have done the trick as she's now almost back to normal-no longer hunched up, tail back up and comb returning to normal. The best bit is she's no longer feeling sorry for herself and running and chuckling around like normal. I'm hoping she's going to make a full recovery. I've still no idea as to the cause, just glad she's recovering.
