patsylabrador Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We have a very sweet and bold robin family in the garden and now the babies are getting their redbreasts they're starting to be a bit silly. It's like they're playing dares ya! I'm constantly being dive-bombed and they swoop past nearly touching me. If I reach for something or bend over they will swoop in between my arm and body or underneath me. It's a lot of fun for all of us. Has anyone else noticed that it's been a good year for garden birds, my garden is constantly busy with all sorts of little birds, which is brilliant for my veggies. I think I've identified most of them now. Bit sad as next door lets his dogs chase and bark at the birds and I saw his dog chasing an injured baby blackbird yesterday. I'm sure it got away but I don't like him for that. I saw chaffinches hovering up the side of the shed catching insects, and the blackbirds pop into the greenhouse to collect their own food. Sam Palmer Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We've had loads of great tit and blue tit families this year, some have obviously been bringing second broods. They descend on the fat balls en masse and there can be 8-10 birds at a time on them. We also have regular visits from the great spotted woodpecker and family. I love your robins! Ain't Nobody Here Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We put out loads of new feeders last year but didn't get many visitors at all . This year, though, they seem to have all discovered them (and the new bird bath ) and we're getting goldfinches along with the sparrows and bluetits . Blackrocksrock Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Our blackbird family which nest every year in the shed have had two clutches there already this year and she is sitting on 5 more eggs perched in a nest on a window sill on a elecric substation next door - right next to our fence and she gets talked to by us daily and knows us so well now - she pinches the hen food and I dont mind. They are wonderful parents and we love to see them every year. The woodpeckers come for food and drill at the larch and pine trees in the garden and they are beautiful but we have less food out this year as it has to be rat proof due to the problem we had earlier in the year after the snow and having got rid of the little varments we will feed the birds but on a lesses scale than before, The robins sound fab Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
docsquid Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We have fed the birds for years, and they come in great numbers. We've even succeeded in getting house sparrows back, as they had completely gone from this area. There are lots of lovely little baby birds around, all fussing after their parents for food - house sparrows, greenfinches, blue-tits, and lots of argumentative baby starlings.
