Two of my girls are not well.

Recommended Posts

One of my Gingers has developed a runny nose she doesn't seem bothered with it but I just wondered if there was anything I could do.

More worryingly is my Pepperpot. She has been fine today until this afternoon. She normally comes running over whenever we go in the garden and she is quite vocal. This afternoon she has just been standing in one spot and has been quiet. Her comb is a bit floppy and looks a bit tinged with black but only a tiny bit. I have just looked in the run and there is 2 pools of what looks like egg white. She started laying about 2 weeks ago but this week she only laid twice, yesterday was the last egg she laid. There were what looked like 2 eggs( no shell, just looked like someone had cracked open the eggs) in the droppings tray last Monday and on Wednesday she laid a softie. Anyone any ideas what could be the matter and how I can make her feel better. Thanks in advance.

Jackie

Im sorry to read you have 2 poorly girls :(

Runny nose first - have you tried adding any citracidel or general to their water or food as this might help get rid of the sniffles and perk them up a little.

Softie eggs - sounds like your girl could do with a little more calcium if she has laid 2 softies in a week and still looks off colour now. Do you always have grit available? You can also add some limestone flour to their food as this is an additional source of calcium too. For the time being keep a special eye on her and check she is eating and drinking ok - crop full at night and empty in the morning.

Keep us posted as to how they are getting on

Cirticidel can be bought from a Pets At Home store - I get mine from there but im sure the Omlet shop sell it too.

Limestone flour can be bought from most horsey type places or try 'Country Wide'

Anyone who cares for their girls is not a nusiance :D

Couldn't agree more :o

I would also recommend garlic for the cold.......I found chopping it up very small and mixing it with yogurt and corn helped them eat it.........some people also recommend putting a clove in their water as well.

With regards to the softees oyster shell is good...yet again you can get this from pets at home ...another way is to bake egg shells for a couple of minutes then crush them and put in feed. Can also add cod liver olive perhaps to garlic etc above.

Hope they are better soon
