Dog shampoo for sensitive skin??

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just wondering if someone can recommend a dog shampoo that is ok to use on my Mum's dog (who has been to the vet with skin problems in the past - she is a rescue dog and her skin reacts if she gets stressed). I used a tiny bit of kids shampoo on her today just because she hasn't had a wash for ages but it hasn't really taken away her 'doggy' smell if you know what I mean....

Thanks

Malaseb is good but as Karlotta said it can only be got from a vet on prescription. Dermocanis is also very good and doesn't need a prescription. It is not a good idea to shampoo her a lot though as you will be stripping out the natural oils that keep her skin healthy. Giving essential fatty acid supplements in her food (lots on the market) or things like salmon oil will improve her skin condition. Frequent brushing will also help. The smell will probably diminish as her skin and coat improve. You can get anti odour sprays for the coat but be careful that she isn't sensitive to them.

I was advised to get Evening Primrose Oil and put a little into Riley's food each night - he's been scratching and nibbling at himself and the vet thinks he's maybe got allergies to something. EPO is supposed to be good for that but takes a while to take effect (not really noticed a huge change yet but it's only been a few weeks.)
