Heidi-Hi
Someone I spoke to were horified when I told her that I was going to put newspaper on the house floor with a nice inch or so Aubiose on top, so that come cleaning day I just roll up and I'm done. She said that the newspaper is really bad for the chickens as they can't walk on it properly and will splay their legs, and can really hurt themselves. She was truly horrified! Any thoughts or experience about this?
Lavenders_Blue
Mine seemed to have managed just fine for the last nine months with wood shavings on top of newspaper
Mollie333
A Lot of rubbish there. It can cause legs to be bent in chicks cause of slippey surfaces i think, but i've been using newspaper under the shavings for the last seven months .. LuckyChickenLover-
I had not heard of this before . As long as there's something on top I'd of thought that it should be ok. The only thing I would suggest is not to give them newspaper with cheap ink. The ink rubs off.
cooker
I have also always used newspaper to line my nest box, I change the bedding everyday so it never gets wet/slippy. I did try putting newspaper on the floor in the main house, but only once, it was too big an area and they just scratched it up and it go all messy! Redwing
Its not suitable for brand new chicks on its own because of the risk of splayed legs but apart from that its fine

madchickenlady
I've used newspaper in the house for the last two years without problems. Well, apart from a narky brrody or two shredding it and dumping it out of the pophole
