Lice or Northern fowl mite?

Recommended Posts

My Rooster has an infestation. How do I know if its Lice or Northern Fowl mite? It seems to be worst under his wings, can see a lot of eggs, but also irritated areas on his breast and has been pulling out his tail feathers. I should have noticed sooner, these are my first chickens. He seems well other than that behaving and eating normally. Can't see anything on the girks (though obviously I will treat them too). I have read than barrier red mite powder is effective against Lice as well as red mite, is this true? Is it anygood against Northern fowl mite? If not is there something organic I can use? Thanks a lot.

I have no idea about the barrier stuff. If ever I see anything on my girls they get a blasting with Johnsons anti mite spray. It seems to kill anything!

If it's lice, I believe the eggs form little grey clumps of cementy looking stuff around the base of the feathers.
