Does anyone know how long wall paper paste stays wet for?

 

Is wall paper paste the old fashioned way (I haven't done it for ahem 4 decades cough cough ) and could I use PVA instead?

 

Any clues and tips hugely welcome

 

I want to make something for my class teacher and, of course, have left it until the last minute

I have stored wallpaper paste in a jam jar for months, but I imagine you don't want to keep it that long

I use slightly diluted PVA so it spreads easily, but not so much that it makes everything soggy.....what are you making.....piccies please

All the 'how to's' I have looked at now seem to use diluted PVA. I have some PM projects planned for the children during the holidays so thats what I intend to try.

THANK YOU! I knew I was being old fashioned... I found a bag of wallpaper paste in the garage and it's probably off anyway (dated 1992 )

I want to make a little hot air balloon! Papier mache around a balloon and then tie fishing line around it and hang a little basket from the bottom with (ooooh! new idea) little Fimo character of my teacher More fishing line attached to a cola-can ring pull so you can hang it from the ceiling. I paid a fortune for something simiilar on holiday once - and ever since I've wanted to have a go myself

 

I'll post photos - if it's any good and doesn't end up in the bin

 

If they are any good, I'm going to make a Penny and Ursula one - my girls flying high

 

Does PVA weather-proof it? Could I hang P&U's in the WIR?

I'm not sure about waterproofing it, but if you have a roofed run I would think it would be ok
