Caring for new chicks

Recommended Posts

I have 3 adorable little bantam chicks that chatched during the course of Thursday. They are eatting and drinking well and seem to be a bit more sturdy on their feet now they have fluffed out a bit.

Seeing as this is my 1st time incubating, is there a certain temp I should keep the chicks at for the 1st couple of weeks? I bought an EcoGlow Brooder, but it doesnt seem to be very warm(max about 85F)...so i've changed the incubator into a mini brooder (turned the temp down to about 90F and put water and food in it). Am I doing the right thing or will they be ok under the EcoGlow?

The Ecoglow isnt the best thing ever made but should be sufficient if the brooder is in the house

The Ecoglow is intended to be used in close contact with the chicks, they should really be able to touch it with their backs, set it at its lowest setting and ensure that the brooder isnt too big for the chicks to wander too far away from it and they should be just fine

Using the inccy is fine to some extent but it doesnt allow the chicks to escape the heat which they need to be able to do

Good luck!
