Nails.

Recommended Posts

Ok so the hens have concrete as their WIR floor and have about 1/3 of it with bark.

I cleared them out this morning and brushed all the bark back to where it should be.

After having a hold I noticed my girls nails are long but they can still scratch around and run up and down. So I don't know what this means.

If I need to cut them I am stumped because I will not be able to hold my Marsh Daisy's what so ever!

Help would be wonderful thank you.

:? why would you need to cut them? Hens are meant to have nails to scratch around with, it's only battery chickens who don't get the chance to run around, who need them trimming because they get over-long. I reckon they'll be fine especially if they are scratching around on a hard surface.

I've got one who is at the bottom of the pecking order who has VERY long nails and we will have to cut them as she is now walking very funnily. She spends 80% of her time on the back of a bench looking down fearfully at the others (who actually ignore her most of the time) rather than scratching around. She is getting better - but it's slow....

Oh I got confused with the bbc programme.

I just had a look and they aren't actually long. They are perfect for scratch me -_-.

The perils of holding a grumpy chicken who is moving house. Scratching not letting go and then pooping on me.
