Bali Crested Runner Ducks.

Recommended Posts

I have been reading up about my breed of ducks. And just found out they are the first runner ducks. The indian's originate from them :)

But they are a rare breed in england so I don't know wether to breed or not :/ I'm really not sure.

Yup, I'd wait and see the sexes first

Then when they've grown up to see if they're good examples of the breed before you start breeding them.

You should really wait until they're about a year old to breed from them, so late next summer + early next year would be good start :D

Don't know if they're particularly rare - they had a pen of them at the farm, crested runner ducks - just another name for them.

You have to be careful breeding crested to crested, as ducklings will all die in the shell, apparently, but I'm sure you already know ;)

Just want them to grow grow grow and my breeder has had 1 duck die in the shell :/

Even if you did have a couple of girls and a boy you'll need to swap him for another unrelated boy so as not to inbreed them. Also, as Lewis said, don't hatch any until late next year although you should really hatch IRD early in the year so they can grow as big as possible as with Brahmas and Orpingtons whereas if you were hatching Call Ducks or Bantams then you would hatch them later in the year.
