lougarbard
a ) what breed my little e bay chicks will be? At what age do they get the full colour they will be? B) the sex of them? I have 3 little e bay chicks hatched out and with mum, they are all different, one of the yellow ones seems to be turning much whiter with her feathers, and has quite a tail, the other yellow is still quite yellow and has fluff for a tail, the tiny tiny jet black one, is now getting feathers with a brwon tinge to the ends!! I also have 4 other chicks, which I tried to add to the broody hen, but i left it too many days, and she rejected them the next morning! But I am looking after them myself, with teddy bears and hot water bottles, and they are out by day and they are thriving and becoming very tame! I got 2 cream legbar (crested??) so they are female and the other 2 are bantam RIR, and are very cute and friendly! Thanks for any help, advice, ideas! I will see if I can work out how to post pics! Egluntyne
Did the ebay seller not indicate what breed the eggs were? It would be useful to have a look at some pics. How to add them **here** You don't say how old they all are, but I'm wondering if the chicks which are not being raised by the broody should really be under a brooding lamp or an electric hen. Lewis
I agree with E, they should have a heat lamp rather than hot water bottles If you post photos we may be able to help, some breeds, like the Cream Legbar are autosexing, others you may have to wait a few months before you can sex them! lougarbard
just testing that posting pics is workingbefore I try to do more!! This is the largest chick, in the bowl, she was hatched about 6 hours before the others, she came out of a dark brown egg, the biggest egg. and wsa quite typically yellow chick, but now feathering is going very pale, possibly white, also has a bit of leg fluff! lougarbard
well there is def a picture, but I think they may be too small for you to get a proper look at! I've enlarged them for you. - Egluntyne The black chick was hatched from the whitest egg ever, he is now getting more brown tints to his wings ( I have always called him a him, no idea why!) he also has slightly feathery legs, he is only about 12 hours younger than the large yellow, but came from a smaller egg. The middle yellow still ( at 3 weeks, same as others) has a lot more fluff than feathers, especially around the tail) this one is still very yellow, no apparent colour change yet! lougarbard
Eglutyne - the E bayer just said mixed bantams! I was not bothered about this, but am getting very curious as to breeds, so I might see what they will end up looking like!! If I cant sex them till much older I am not worried but just be nice to know before I get TOO friendly with all of the ones!
