One hen has been left alone. What do I do?

Recommended Posts

I have had 2 lovely girls that came from omlet 4.5 years ago, but Daisy sadly died yesterday. I am now left with a rather sad Lilly who has sepnt the whole day just sitting in the house and seems quite depressed. Should I just let her live out her days by herself or try and introduce a couple of new hens? :(

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Two of my girls died and left Gwen on her own. She was really depressed, I got her a new PoL to keep her company and hey presto she is back to being a happy chuck again.

So If I were you I would get her two new friends. At least then you won't be left in the same situation when anything happens to her. :)

Hi , same advice here :!: A single hen is def an unhappy hen. Had the same circs and introduced Pom & Fav my auracana & faverolle. They are the sweetest threesome now but it did take time. Boris was not a happy lady for quite some time and still missed her mate Penny despite having the other two. Go for it but be prepared for setbacks.

I had the same issue when I lost one of my original pair to a raccoon attack. My remaining girl was quite lovely, bonding with us and following us around everywhere as a surrogate flock. As great as that was, I felt bad that she was alone for most of the days during the week and got her a couple POLs as company. She was quite huffy about it at first (but perky and no longer lonely!) and now gets along with the new girls as if she had known them all her life. She is definitely happier now that she has partners in crime again.
