Is it possible to cover roof of a WIR?

Recommended Posts

Yep - Onduline is BRILLIANT :D We had corrugated PVC sheets before but they were always a pain to seal and then the joints cracked under the weight of the snow, which meant the roof leaked when it thawed and every time it rained - the flooring was horrible, just disgusting, like a quagmire.

So for a few months, our WIR was covered with a tarpaulin pinned down with old bits of wood  - not pretty but it really did the job very well - our lovely neighbours never complained! As soon as the weather picked up, we put onduline on. I was worried it would be too dark in the run but, actually, it's not and the girls are sheltered from all weathers, can't see anything flying above (so keeps them quiet) and it's snug in there in the winter :)

Before (ewww)

After - yay!

We DIYed the whole thing - run (can you tell ) and roof. The door was from an old shed that was falling apart - the only bit that wasn't  The run was just pressure treated timber screwed together with weldmesh stapled on top. DH also did the onduline roof - IIRC it was about £40 something quid. They're quite expensive, check out the length of the Onduline sheets before you choose your run as our run is about a foot too wide! So when we come to rebuild the run (moving in the Autumn, fingers crossed), we'll make the depth slightly shorter than the length of an onduline sheet so we don't have to join them.

We got ours in B&Q - extra discount if we bought 5 sheets PLUS we went on a "spend £50 and get 15% off" weekend so it should have been something like £70 and we paid under £50.

Worth every penny! We spent a lot on the PVC stuff, kept replacing it as it split and leaked - just throwing good money after bad!

Sorry to butt in  but have you had really heavy rain since you've put Onduline on Tutti and has it still stayed leakproof? We've currently got the PVC sheets and need to do some work on it but it's the cost of buying Onduline that's putting DH off replacing it all.
