I feel so sorry for the 9 girls I collected yesterday, together with a cube (I'm the third owner). When I looked in their cube tonight (about 6:30), there were small mountains of red mite, and they were not red, but MAROON !!! I gave it a ferocious scrub yesterday after I got it, but they obviously hide very well. I DE'd as much as I could, and then treated the girls to a tin of sweetcorn, and while they were bottoms up, they got a good puff too! It's me and red mite this week - I will kill them all Just call me 'Kill Heidi' I will get them sorted, if it is the last thing I do I am picking up some Total Mite Kill Concentrate and will blast them to you know where...

No, they are moving oversees at the end of the month. She was sad to see it all go, but it was all a bit grim Either way, I will try my best to sort them out. Hubby was not impressed, he said he would rather have paid a bit extra and bought me a new one. Now he tells me

Red mite can happen to everyone - it's endemic in the wild bird population - so think of it as a learning experience! Strangely, I have it in one cube and one eglu, but not in the others. So it's rather random in its appearance.
