My Chickens need a WIR, but how do i start?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Hope everybody is keeping well. Its been just over 2 months now that i have been keeping chickens, and so far its been a blast. However i now have very naughty chickens that arent happy with there run. Its basically a fenced run, 1m high metal mesh. They have 10x10m to do what they want in there, but oh no, that isnt good enough for them and they wont the whole garden to play in lol.

I need to build a fully enclosed WIR, but i have NO idea where to start. Ideally i would like to have the panels already made and i can just nail them together as im terrible at DIY (Yep im a man also) lol.

Can anyone recommend a reliable company i could order them online maybe? That way i know my chickens will only be out when i let them out to have a good free range. Luckily i work from home so when they do jump over the mesh, im there to see it etc.

Cheeky little chickens eh? lol.

Many thanks in advance

Mark

There are several posts on this forum on this topic ........ which I've been scrutinising very closely recently!!! The names that seem to keep cropping up are Avaries4u, Flytes So Fancy, Chirpy Coops and Bay Animal Housing. The latter look to provide a great product at an excellent price.

Start by looking at your land and decide on where, then plan your base and whether you are having the cube/eglu/coop inside or out. Then replan the base, measure the size house, get some quotes. Buy a drill, screwdriver, spirit level and some plasters and hire someone to do it for you. :D

Seriously work out size of run based on no of chooks you have/wish to have based on at least 1sq m per hen. :D
