Recommended Posts

Congratulations :D

Your girls are gorgeous :D

I have 3 white stars (Hipswell White?) and they lay gorgeous white eggs also have a Bluebelle (Blue Haze?). From your pic Octavia looks like a white star to me...but I am not an expert

Have fun :D

Re the poo thing, we had an awful moment yesterday. After about an hour of them having arrived, there was suddenly this almighty farm smell, that we could smell in the house, prob some 60 yards from where the hens are. I thought it was them, and thought if they stink like this already, what will we do?! Then some further sniffing revealed someone must be muck spreading somewhere (the town I live in does sometimes smell of muck!) as it definitely smelt to cattley for hens, but there was a moment!

Octavia does have a tiny bit of amber on her. We did look at some amber stars, so I don't think she is one of those as I would have thought chicken man would have said, but he wasn't big on chatting so maybe not.

I am really pleased with my jungle style run too scarletohara. :D

Chicken bark - I'm based in Yorkshire. What makes you ask? Whereabouts are you? (And did I speak to you yesterday? )

Enjoy, I bought my 4 bantams last Saturday and although i love them, their smell and sheer amount of poo has recently been dampening my feelings. Today hoping to build a wood chip area so that i can keep them in their run a bit more. I have been just letting them roam the garden for 13 hours, but this might not be too good for their diet as at least one has the runs. Plus my back is aching with all that poo picking. Have 2 small children and i am sick of shouting at them "check where you are walking" or "take your shoes off at the back door" Bless one is only 7 months old and she is still being shouted at. :x

Well off to a car boot sale now, have to make the money back somewhere as this is turning out to be quite expensive.

Enjoy your first full day with your hens. :D

Kate

I find that compared to bigger ladies, Bantam poo is nothing!! I made a huge run for lil'uns, they dont ever want to come out, they just sit by the open door  maybe build a bigger run??

Your girls are gorgeous btw Karena :D

Chicken bark will be after smuggling your chooks

Hmm though so :wink::lol:

The cheek of it. :notalk:

I'm in Yorkshire too. I've not been to Glencroft as it is a bit too far for me, but I have been to a guy near York I can recommend and also to Jody at Raw Green Cottages. Not that you are planning on expanding yet of course but I like thinking ahead.

And no - you didn't speak to me :?:

Hope they are settling in well for you.

Raw green cottages was also on my list, but I'm only just over an hour from Glencroft. Funny you should say about getting more, as I'm not, but I was mulling over the thread about broodiness and getting them some eggs, thinking how i couldn't do that, and then my eyes strayed to another spare bit of the garden... :anxious:

I spoke to someone yesterday who knew of the forum you see which made me wonder if you were they.
