Soft egg shell. Is this common for first egg

Recommended Posts

We have been waiting for our Columbine hen to lay her first egg, which we thought should have hapened by now. The last couple of days she has been acting strange and running in and out of the eglu house.

Anyway, when we put them away tonight, noticed a shell less egg which would have been the Columbine as the other two had laid earlier in the day.

So my question is, is it normal or OK for the first egg to be a softie or could it be something else. Please advise. :?

Hi

My two new girls arrived on Sunday evening and yesterday one laid a normal egg !eggcream! but the other one laid a shell-less egg just before bedtime :anxious: . Although its not the first eggs they've every laid i think it is because she has moved home and is just a little unsettled so hopefully over the next few days they'll both be fine. :D

They lay all sorts when they first start laying. Flora laid her first eff last week and it was a perfect 55g egg. Then we had a softie, then a couple of very thin shelled eggs one of which was only 37g. todday shec laid a 67g perfect egg so she's getting the hang of it.
