Chicken shack
It's been a week since I got my 4 girls and Rhoda has laid an egg every day. They have all been large with todays one weighing 70g. I have also let them free range since Wednesday in half of my garden however they retrun to the cube often. Because of this I haven't done much else other than chicken watch.LOL. I have been unable to pick them up, if I try they go mad, any suggestions on how to go about it? OH (who didn't want chickens) has just come flying in, in a panic from the garden to say that Rhoda is not there. He was about to rush off down the road in hot pursiut, but having obsered her for the past few day I new where she would be under a bush! LuckyChickenLover-
Well done Rhoda 70g is pretty big! The chickens will probaly become more cuddly when you've had them for a bit longer. I always try to grab their shoulders when I pick them up so that they can't flap their wings. Oh, and you know those chicken pictures at the bottom of your post, you don't have to add them in manualy, clicking here will tell you how to add a signature . Thank you for that but I have not got a clue on what the instructions want me to do. I must be dumb but I have not seen anything as complicated as this. helen1962
When I first got my hens they were not keen on being picked up and to be honest they still aren't. However they do get used to you and tolerate it when I do. Two of my hens I raised from chicks thinking that they would be accustomed to being picked up more than the ex-batts! How wrong I was, although they do like to sit on my knee when I take a coffee out to the run (I have installed a garden seat in the middle of it because they love perching on it). Ruby the ex-batt is far more comfortable being cuddled than they are. In fact Wendy the Light Sussex is terribly flightly and she is big and fat twice the size of the others!
