Ex Batt Crumbs

Recommended Posts

Is it ok to feed ex-batt crumbs to non-ex batt hens permanently? My hen with the missing top beak has this now as it's easier for her to pick up than pellets (dry and sometimes as a wet mash), but the others have taken to eating it too instead of their pellets!

I'm not sure to be honest, but I use the ex batts pellets for my hens and when I get some more hens which won't be ex batts they will all be eating the same food. A lot of people on here keep both ex batts and regular hens so I would have thought it's fine as the ex batts food just has some added nutrition I think :)

yes its fine as far as I know. I only have exbatts and they are on this all the time (pellet version), the crumb is exactly the same just crushed up. I know some people give their normal hens the ex abtt range as it is full of extra vitamins and goodness and the've found egg quality and feathering etc is better.

I would have thought it would be ok. I only have exbatts and they have been on the Exbatt crumb since I had them and I've pretty much decided to keep them on it permanently as none gets wasted. The only slight downside with the ex-batt food is that it doesn't seem that widely available?

You also need to remember that your chooks can't read (I don't think), so unless you tell them it's ex-batt food, they'll never know!!!!!!:wink:

Mine are all ex-batts and I feed them the crumb and will continuw with it. I would have thought it would be fine to keep other hens on it as it is really good stuff.

I really struggled to find a good place to buy it - it is so expensive online once delivery is added but I visited my local BATA store and they now order it in and it only costs £10.99 for the 20kg bag. No delivery charges - yippee!

My ex-batts have all been on it since I got them last October and are doing really well. My chicken of fate, Lottie, who joined us earlier this month is also on the food as clearly it would be impossible to feed her something different! She seems to love it and is healthy and laying well. I am sure on the Smallholder website it says it is suitable for all hens including older hens who often benefit from a few extra vits and minerals.

Given the way my girls tuck into it with such enthusiam, I am considering giving it a go myself!
