Bramble
Lots of you hve mentioned that you've had poo samples (from your hens!!!!) tested for worms. How do you do this please?
Redwing
You can have it done by the vet but a cheap and easy way of getting it done is to use Retfords, you send them a sample and you get the results pretty quickly
Bramble
Thanks, presumably I have to contact them first (what on earth do I put the poo in to send it!!!???) Any idea how much it costs?
Redwing
I'm not sure of the cost, I think its under £20 though. I would imagine a poo sample could be put in a clean tester pot Here are their details Retford Poultry Partnership 5 Stirling Rd Retford Notts DN22 7SN tel: 01777 703011

Jools
Best thing is to give them a call, or to email them with your requirements, but as a guide ...... My price list may be out of date as it's from last year, but a parasitology test (worms!!) was £5.50 plus VAT. They have a minimum charge of £8.50 plus VAT though. However you can buy their chicken testing kit (which includes a pot for the droppings sample) for £2 plus VAT. So for one sample, the cost is around £10. You don't have to collect a sample from each hen either, you just collect "some poops" from the pen and send it off as one sample. I can highly recommend their services - I use them annually for parasitology testing to make sure my chooks are healthy
