Darren Beaumont
I really love watching my chickens before they go to bed. They are so gentle this time of day and sing little purring songs. I could just sit there for ages watching them preen themselves. Will I still be this enthusiastic middle of winter?
jam
I'm with you there, although Im too quick running back inside to see in the winter. I like your avatar by the way
Guest
I wasn't as an enthusiast in winter because I kept forgetting a coat. But now I have WIR I will be because I can see the hens out in the snow and laugh at them. (I know that sounds mean) It is one of the worst parts of chicken keeping I feel because you get COLD. Egluntyne
...... Will I still be this enthusiastic middle of winter? You'll find the early morning sprint across snow to break the ice on their drinking water very invigorating, especially if you do it in pyjamas. Snoxy
Last year my little girl sat on my lap...both of us wrapped in a large duvet...hen watching...lovely
Plum
Yup I still enjoy them as much in winter, but they don't play game and go to bed when it is dark and I work full time. OH has just put up movement sensor lights (Bargain in B&Q at present £4.99) in the run for me. Twill be interesting to see what happens to their habits then. I don't think the batteries will last long It's great when the light evenings come again
Falkor
Providing your adequately suited and booted in the snow (wellies, Pj's and coat are such a look) then chooks are just as fun in the winter! There is nothing like watching them contemplate that first step across the run threshold into the crisp white snow.........and then watching them as they quickly realise that this white stuff is nasty and retreat back to the cozy aubiose
