Well as it was a warm sunny afternoon today, what better way to spend it than cleaning out the coop

 

I stripped out all the old bedding and hoovered all the cracks and crevices ( it's amazing the nooks and crannies where wood shavings find their way into) before making up a bucket of poultry shield and thoroughly scrubbing out the inside.

 

I normally give the PS a quick squirt around when I clean out but this is the first time since I got the girls that I have performed quite such a thorough clean and disinfect

 

I then made two new nesting boxes for the girls as they are terribly perverse and refuse to lay their eggs in the actual nesting box, preferring to use the floor of the coop So I have, ahem, borrowed two small gravel trays from my dad's gardening shed which are just the right size for nest boxes and installed these in the bottom of the coop in an attempt to keep it all tidier and not find so much wood shavings all over the place!

 

All in all, a very satisfying afternoon's work. No doubt the chooks will reward me by pooping all over it tonight

I feel like that when Eglu is all sweeting smelling and nice then poop poop poop and its back to smelliness again

Ours just love to walk over it as we're cleaning - we'll just have finished a bit and suddenly they walk on it and it's all muddy again1 Not tht it really matters as they'll poop on it that night anyway...

I have the exact same problem. Rosie is nicknamed Nosey Rosie as she always comes into the coop to have a good nose round while I am trying to clean. Problem is she keeps getting in the way

 

I usually end up lifting her out and shutting the pop hole so she can't get back in until I'm finished
